The key you need

In your Polar organization's Settings, scroll to Developers and create a new token. Select subscriptions:read and organizations:read, and nothing else. It starts with polar_oat_.

Those two scopes let the token read your subscriptions and your organization's name, and nothing more. A token made in Polar's sandbox only works against the sandbox, and Thonest recognises it as test mode — useful for trying the flow, and never ranked.

If you give the token an expiry date

Polar lets you set an expiry date on an organization token, which is a good habit for anything you hand to a third party. It has one consequence worth knowing before you pick a date: when the token expires, the nightly reading stops and your timeline stops moving.

Nothing is lost. The history already measured stays exactly as it was, and when you paste a fresh token, readings resume from that day. If you would rather not think about it, leave the expiry off and revoke the token in Polar whenever you want to stop.

What gets counted

Recurring subscription revenue, with tax excluded — Polar handles sales tax and VAT as merchant of record, and tax is not revenue. Active and past-due subscriptions count; trials do not. Annual plans are spread across twelve months.

It is the same rule applied to every company on Thonest, so a Polar seller and a Stripe seller can be compared honestly.
