Will AI take your job? What the claims actually say
Almost every claim about AI and jobs is about a whole economy — the hardest kind to check and the easiest kind to repeat.
October 3, 2026 · figures counted October 4, 2026
6 claims here are about AI and employment. 3 carry a deadline.
The pattern is not that people are wrong. It is that the claims are shaped so nobody will ever find out.
Whole-economy claims are unfalsifiable by construction
“AI will replace most knowledge work” has no threshold, no date and no source that publishes the answer. Something will happen to employment over the next decade, and almost any outcome can be read as consistent with it.
The claims that can settle are narrow: a named occupation, a measured share, a statistics agency that publishes the figure, a date.
Read the wording, not the headline
Every record keeps the exact words rather than a paraphrase, because the hedge is usually in the original and missing from the summary. “Could”, “may”, “on current trends” — those words decide whether there is anything to check.
Every claim here is checkable.
The exact words, the source and its date, the test fixed before the outcome, and what happened when it landed.
